Electrical Engineer

Job Description

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for helping develop the next generation of technology that enables high-voltage battery energy storage, both stationary and in vehicle sectors. The Electrical Engineer will design circuit boards and develop electronic systems based on our collection of reference designs and technology, further developing the technology to meet the changing needs of our customers.

Duties:

1. Design printed circuit boards for battery management systems or embedded control modules (Altium Designer)

2. Write and test embedded software to run on our controllers (C/C++)

3. System design and engineering for applications that use our controllers

4. Board-level bring-up, testing and rework

5. Software and functional testing

6. Requirements analysis

7. Write technical documentation

Required Experience:

1. At least three years of electrical engineering or embedded systems development

2. Bachelor or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field

3. Experience designing low-power embedded systems

Desired Experience or Skills:

1. Experience designing circuit boards for high voltage applications

2. Proficient in Altium Designer

3. Experience writing and testing C/C++ code in embedded systems

4. Experience with debugging on the lab bench and in the field

5. Experience operating lab bench equipment (Oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads…etc.)

6. Ability to solder through-hole and SMT parts

7. Experience with ARM Cortex MCUs

The Ideal Candidate:

1. Places high value on quality work.

2. Performs well independently or with direction, depending on the project needs.

3. Works well in a team with diverse talents and expertise. This includes learning from others and growing skills and expertise in an interactive environment.

4. Troubleshoots for the fun of it: we require an electrical engineer who sees a problem and uses engineering skills to solve it without necessarily needing significant assistance. This is a position that will, at times, require some mental gymnastics to really understand and address issues specific to the project.

5. Values great engineering: we work in a space that, now more than ever, requires not just good engineers, but engineers with a passion for what they do. Our technology enables the world to run on electricity rather than fossil fuels, for machines to run more efficiently and with greater performance. Stafl Systems is a place for engineers who are passionate about using their skills to improve the world around them.

6. Flexes their schedule: we need people who are excited and want to come into the office every day, who understand that late nights happen when it comes to crunch time, and that customers don’t always have problems during business hours.

7. Demonstrates loyalty and trustworthiness: our relationships with customers are built on trust, as is relationships among employees. Cultivating trust at all levels and in all interactions is critical.

8. Cares about others, including customers and other employees: we are a company that cares greatly about employees and customers. We all truly care about one another and the work we do.

9. Takes responsibility for projects and themselves: we need people who believe in what they do and take responsibility for the success of the project. No project is an individual effort and all projects require team members to take responsibility for their part, ask relevant questions when needed, but most importantly put their heads down and get the work done.

10. Knows how to make mistakes (not too often though) and learn from them: we recognize that we all make mistakes, but not taking responsibility for a mistake is unacceptable.
