Stafl Systems
Battery Management Systems

Off-the-shelf battery management, configured to your pack.

  • Lithium-ion batteries require sophisticated management systems to control proper charging and discharging

  • Stafl Systems' BMS products cover high voltage packs up to 1000 V and low voltage packs from 10 V to 60 V

  • Every product is configurable to your cells, and can be customized to fit your pack and application

The Stafl Advantage

Building a battery pack is hard enough. Don't let the BMS hold you up.

 Versatile I/O

Contactor and pyroswitch drivers, safety interlock loops, digital and analog inputs, temperature sensing and switched power outputs, all on one board. The BMS2000 runs your contactors, interlocks, thermal system and sensors, so there are fewer controllers to buy, wire and validate.

Every Stafl Systems BMS arrives with safety already engineered in. Then our team tailors it to your cells and your system, so you start with a protected pack on day one and keep the freedom to make it your own.

All Stafl Systems Battery Management Hardware:

 Ready on Day One

Start with a proven product, not a development program. Off-the-shelf Stafl Systems BMS products cover packs from 10 V to 1000 V, so your team can focus on the rest of your product.

 Tuned to Your Pack

We characterize your cells and set the limits and contactor sequencing for your system. You get a BMS that knows your pack, without writing a line of BMS code.

 Safety Built In

Our BMS is designed with functional safety in mind from the start and backed by safety analysis, so the heavy lifting is done before your project begins. Redundant hardware, advanced diagnostics and a dedicated safety software stack give you a solid foundation. From there, we work with your team to build the safety case around your application, because no two systems carry the same risks.

 Speaks Your System's Language

Our BMS enables seamless communication with your vehicle controller, PLC or charger over CAN, RS-485 and Ethernet, using standard protocols like J1939, CANopen and Modbus, or your own message set, configured by our team.

 Best-In-Class Accuracy

±2.25 mV cell voltage and ±0.2% pack current, held for the life of the pack. Accurate measurements mean trustworthy state of charge, tighter balancing and more usable energy from every cell.

 Grows With You

When your product changes, your BMS can too. A different I/O mix, a new form factor or a pack beyond 1000 V: assembly variants, expansion boards and custom builds take the same proven core wherever you go next.

High Voltage BMS

Distributed architecture ensuring a robust system

Our high voltage BMS uses a distributed architecture. A String Controller oversees each string of series-connected modules, with Cell Monitors watching every cell. Add monitors to scale up to 600 cells in series.

For larger systems, connect multiple packs in series or parallel, and each pack's String Controller coordinates with the others to run them as one system.

1X String Controller Per String

  • Measures pack voltage, current and isolation

  • Drives contactors, pre-charge and pyroswitch

  • Supervises safety functions and enforces safe state

  • Reports SOC, SOH, SOE, and faults to the host system

1-36X Cell Monitors per string

  • Measure cell voltages and temperatures

  • Balance cells: BMS2101 at up to 1 A per cell for large packs, BMS2104 at up to 0.2 A for compact modules

  • Communicate with the String Controller over an isoSPI ring

Low Voltage BMS

Consolidated hardware for lower cost and complexity

Low voltage systems can take advantage of the BMS2300's integrated design. It measures every cell, senses pack current and includes high current solid state switches on one board, so there are no separate cell monitors, contactors or fuses to buy and integrate, saving cost and complexity in your pack.

COUNTLESS APPLICATIONS

hIGH VOLTAGE

While a vehicle’s power system sees a battery pack as a single, high-voltage battery — charging and discharging the entire battery pack at once — the battery control system must consider each battery’s condition independently.

LOW VOLTAGE

A proper system will continuously monitor important battery parameters for low voltage applications, while dealing with the varying power demands of the many aspects of operation and optimizing the usage of the battery.

stationary storage

The service life of a battery pack is tied to the weakest battery in the system. In the balancing process, each of the batteries within the string is maintained at optimal voltage levels, eliminating the ill-effects of improper charging.
